Google celebrated its 27th birthday on 27 September 2025 with a reminiscent Doodle on its homepage. The Doodle has rekindled the original Google logo of 1998 that lets users go back in time to the humble origins of the company.
According to the Doodle announcement:
“The Doodle is the 27th birthday of Google. We are celebrating by taking a trip back to our first ever-logo.”
The Doodle brought about attention to the date of 27 September, however there is a little more to the story of how Google was built.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated Google on September 4, 1998. Prior to incorporation, the project was started as BackRub (a research project at Stanford) and the name of Google.com was registered in September 1997.
The official birthday of September 27 was not determined initially. Google has held its birthday on different days of September such as the 4 th, 7 th, 8 th, 26 th and 27 th.
Google seems to have changed to the 27th celebration in 2005, either to coincide with an achievement when the number of pages Google indexed was the highest, or to streamline the celebrations.

In brief, therefore, the date of intentional incorporation is the 4th of September, and the day of festival is the 27th of September, the custom.
